Most pregnant women find it difficult to find the right sleepwear that can be both aesthetically pleasing and at the same time would provide them with the comfort they need to get a good night's rest. Some settle for the husband's too-big shirt and pajamas, thinking they wouldn't be able to find anything else that would fit. Well, it's a good thing that there are a lot of clothing designers now who are sensitive to the needs of mothers-to-be. Along with the variety of maternity clothing that can be purchased off the rack in various department stores, lingerie and sleepwear has been added to this equation.
It's a well-known fact that pregnant women often have difficulty getting to sleep. Because of the hormonal changes experienced by the body, most mothers-to-be feel hot all the time, or can't seem to find the right position when sleeping. Discomfort is a part of the reasons why a lot of pregnant women can't sleep, add to that back pain caused by the change in the body's frame. That's why when it comes to purchasing the right kind of maternity sleepwear, there are three different factors a mother-to-be should look for:
*Comfort: Comfort here refers to the size of the nightgown or the pajamas. Pajamas made for expecting mothers often have soft, elastic waistbands that won't restrict the wearer's tummy. The great thing is that these pajamas can be used post-pregnancy as well.
* Breathable Fabrics: Most pregnant women feel hot all the time. To lessen the feeling of discomfort, find the right kind of fabric that the expecting mother would be comfortable with. Most of the time, soft, breathable fabrics is best to allow maximum levels of comfort.
* Size: One thing to remember when purchasing any type of maternity clothing would be that the size of the woman does not change when she gets pregnant. It's the same size with allowance where it's needed.
Maternity nightgowns available in the market usually have very soft cotton-style fabrics. Some types can have form-fitting busts and empire waistlines for added support, but the rest is usually form-fitting. There are some companies that offer lace trim nighties with built-in bras to help give the breasts adequate and needed support.
Maternity sleepwear also includes loose, comfortable cotton shorts and large tee-shirts for a more laid-back feel. While for the more traditional, comfortable pajamas are also available for expecting mothers.
Sizes for maternity sleepwear usually comes in petite, small, medium or large. Prices may range from $15 to $150, depending on the material, comfort and support afforded by the sleepwear.
